As I Have Seen
I have travelled far and deep
I have seen
I havn't met the most intelligent people
Nor the dumbest
I have seen Nigerians. Simple!
I have seen 12-year olds
Who can't speak ghetto
Talk more of Queen's
23-year olds without the know of light bulbs
And districts with no single telecoms network
Kids with no clothes
Just paper-boats
Oh sorry; I mean canoes
I have seen 18-year old girls
Without the know of pads
Talk more of its use
I have seen
Kids with no dreams
They don't even know what dreams are!
Or what the future holds. water?
I have seen communities with no schools
Others with shacks in the name of schools
In this nation i have seen
It's hard to believe
But I have seen
Deep in thick forests
Protectors with bows, arrows and catapults
No guns, bullet proof vests or anti-bomb squads
Wrecked hospitals
With no doctors
But unpaid nurses
With patients wound
ed beyond bruises
No beer parlours or pharmacies
Homes without food
Kids with no shoes
Its hard to believe
Until you see
But when you see
Please act like me
Take off yours
Give it them
For its an honour
And its not the government's
Its mine and yours
Its our Nigeria
Please when you see
As I have seen
See again; see better
Because Jesus loves them too.
