HEARTLESS

You see?
I am driving through one of those pot-holed Diobu streets,
And there is this police van right in my before,
(obviously looking for a commercial vehicle to impound­ for bribe exchange),
They stop this on-coming commercial bus,
(for God knows what),
Then out of the bus the driver comes kneeling & begging,
Like he's asking the Almighty for mercy,
But they refuse to let him off the hook,
(of course, except he gives a bribe).
All this while, I have been slamming the horn in my car,
(actually my father's car which is technically mine too),
Because they are causing a terrible traffic, Just almost immediately,
One of them pops his head out of the rickety van and says,
"Shut up! You dey make noise",
Finally, they drive away,
Because the driver drops a bribe which is too juicy to be ignored,
Few metres away from that spot,
A little boy was hit by another vehicle,
And as I hit the brakes,
Behind the police van to see if I kud help,
I see the Nigerian Police heartlessly drive away in that rickety van of theirs!
And of all the words on earth,
I could only think of 'heartless'
